The “Structures” show is now open at the Inverness Centre for the Arts in Inverness, Cape Breton (http://www.invernessarts.com/). If you haven’t seen the show yet, this would be a wonderful time to see it. We not only have the “Structures” show in the main gallery, but some other fibre art exhibitions showing at the same time. In the middle of the gallery is a large 3D fibre installation by Maria Doering (http://www.maria-doering.com/). It is called “Inside Me” and complements our own exhibition perfectly. In the hallways is a solo show by Penny Berens “Scratching the Surface” (http://tanglewoodthreads.blogspot.ca//). Wonderful work showcasing Penny’s extensive and expressive hand stitched pieces. Also, there is “Structures Expanded”, more work by the “Structures” artists. This is a mixed show, with finished work, free standing work, in process pieces, design drawings and so on. It gives visitors a glimpse into the work process of textile artists. I have a new piece there, plus some in progress work.
This is “Feather Fantasy”:
I made samples to show how I paint the feathers onto the background fabric. These are done with a freezer paper stencil that gets ironed on and this gives me the outline for the feather. I painted it with oil paintsticks.
The whole space looks just wonderful, it was a very special opening last Sunday. The show can be seen until October18.
Thanks for reading
UPDATE: This piece sold during the show, as well as several others! The buyer even wanted my progress samples…
