My SAQA auction piece

Every year I make a donation of a 12″ by 12″ quilt to the Studio Art Quilt Association (www.saqa.com). I’m a Professional Artist Member of this very valuable and supporting group and benefit from their work. So I like to give back by donating a small art quilt for their annual benefit auction which will commence on September 10 2012. There are many beautiful works of art up for grabs at a very reasonable price. The auction quilts can be previewed on SAQAs website (http://www.saqa.com/gallery-mini-detail.php?ID=2053).

This year I decided to give one of my newest works, “Stepping Stones”, featuring my new technique of monoprinting and painting fabric. I think it looks fresh and interesting, I hope it finds a buyer!

My Favourite Book Library Quilt

Here is the final result of my work with the kids, I think it turned out really well. The space in the kids room of the Peoples’ Place in Antigonish is perfect for the quilt and I hope visitors will be able to enjoy it for a long time.

The library quilt is finished and will move to its new home in April. I’m happy with the result and hope the library will be too..

I also finished a challenge piece for the Canadian Quilter’s Association Conference 2011 which is in London, Ont. this year. The theme is “Quilting in the forest” and I had to incorporate 5 fabrics they provide, and the colours were really not what I usually work with! But that’s the challenge… So I altered the fabrics a bit with the help of some oil paintsticks and leaf rubbing plates, did some fabric strip weaving and raw edge applique on top, and now I like the fabrics.

Working away…

… on the Library quilt. My commission for the newly built Antionish Library is almost done, just the binding and sleeves to put on. I’m very pleased how it turned out. The ten children who were involved with this did a wonderful job with the 17 (!!) different storybook characters they made. I hope the kids room in the library will have a wonderful focal point with this textile wall hanging. There are so many details, you can spend quite some time discovering them all.

Here is a little sneak peek, the opening of the new location is still 2 months away, so I will post more pictures in the weeks to come. Stop by and have a look!

Well, New Year – new plans! This might just be another good resolution, or it might actually come to fruition. With the best of intentions, I will start to blog and keep you updated about fibre and art related things going on in my life.
